What you need:
  • Black lashing cord
  • Scissors
Lashing bamboo together is easy once you get the hang of it. Begin by cutting a length of lashing cord about 5' long. Then lay it over the top piece of bamboo at a 45 angle.

Pull the ends of the cord under and around the bottom piece of bamboo.

Bring the ends of the cord up and across the top piece of bamboo. Then pull them down, under, and around the lower piece of bamboo again.

Repeat this procedure several times, keeping as much tension as possible on the cord. What you are making is really just a series of figure eights.

When you run out of cord, tie a knot above the top piece of bamboo. Any knot that won't slip (including a square knot) will do. If you don't have confidence in your knots, tie a double or triple knot as insurance against slippage.

Trim away the excess cord. That's all there is to it. With practice, lashing bamboo will become second nature.
