This soothing and decorative bamboo fountain can be the centerpiece of your home or patio. It's easy to assemble with a few inexpensive components and a thick length of bamboo. Similar to our large bamboo fountain, this one fits smaller spaces.

First, use a bamboo saw or hacksaw to cut the bamboo into sections for the fountain head. Cut one piece to about 12" long, with growth rings on each end (the barriers formed by the growth rings keep water from flowing out the ends). Cut two smaller sections, about 5" long, each with a growth ring at one end.

Now cut diagonally across both ends of the larger bamboo section at a 45-degree angle (don't cut into the growth ring barriers). Make similar cuts on the open ends of each of the small pieces.

Find the center point of the larger bamboo piece, and drill a " hole through the bottom surface (don't drill through the top). Drill two more holes in the top surface, a few inches to each side of the hole on the bottom. Find the center of the small pieces and drill a " hole through the bottom surface of each.

Cut 3 pieces of clear tubing, each " long (with an inside diameter of " and an outside diameter of 5/8"). Insert one into each of the holes you drilled in the large piece of bamboo. The fit will be tight; you'll have to compress the tubing a little to get it in.

Match the holes on the bottoms of the small pieces of bamboo to the corresponding holes on the top surfaces of the larger pieces. Insert the connecting tubing into the corresponding holes. Before pushing the pieces all the way together, smear some quick setting epoxy around the tubing. Push the pieces together, and allow the epoxy to set.

Place a 60gph water pump in the bottom of a shallow ceramic bowl. Attach the bamboo to the pump with the small piece of tubing inserted in the hole in the bottom of the fountain head.

Layer decorative rocks inside the bowl. The rocks help support the fountain head, as well as adding an aesthetic flair.

Half fill the bowl with water and plug the pump in. Adjust the flow of the pump to get it just right. Arrange the rocks as necessary to avoid splashing and to fine-tune the sound of the fountain.
