What you need:
  • Succulents
  • Metal hanging basket form
  • Cactus mix
  • Sphagnum moss
A moss lined basket is ideal for planting a trailing succulent. One of the benefits of using moss as a liner is that it offers optimal drainage for your plant. Line a wire basket with moist sphagnum moss. The layer of moss should be about 1-1/2" thick when compressed.

Fill the basket with commercial cactus mix. You can make your own by mixing one part sand with three parts soil-based potting mix. Make a hole for the plant in the center of the hanging basket.

Place the plant in the hole and spread its roots. Backfill some soil into the basket and firm around the plant's root ball to remove any air pockets.

Water the plant a few days after planting. This will give the plant a chance to settle in its new home.
