There are many types of succulents. Almost all do well in sunny, hot locations like windows facing the south or southeast. Growing succulents in a well-ventilated place will help prevent leaf diseases.

Succulents and cacti grow best in very well drained soil. Many die from root rot when soil conditions are too wet or waterlogged. Any quality commercial cactus mix will work fine as a growing media.

This is a fungal rot caused by soil that is kept too wet. To avoid this problem, let the plant dry out totally between waterings.

Clay pots are the best choice for both succulents and cacti. Clay absorbs moisture out of the soil, creating a favorable environment for the plant.

When you do water, drench the plants thoroughly. Cacti need very little fertilizer. Apply a commercial liquid fertilizer at the recommended strength every 4 to 6 weeks.
