Orchids have a unique flower structure. We will use as our example the Cattleya, which is the flower that most people recognize as being an orchid.

Probably the most obvious and many times the most beautiful part of the flower is the lip or labellum.

The column, located inside the lip is where the sexual organs of the orchid are located.

The petals are also usually very beautiful in most orchids and are usually the largest portion of the flower. All Cattleyas have two petals.

The sepals are like smaller petals. Cattleyas always have 3 sepals. The top one is called the dorsal sepal while the other two are called lateral sepals.
