When an orchid is over-fertilized the result can be root and leaf burn. The tips of the leaves may turn brown and die. To avoid fertilizer burn, use a weak solution of fertilizer when you water. Never apply fertilizer to dry soil or root burn could result. It's always best to fertilize your plants with less fertilizer more often as opposed to large doses all at once.
