What you need:
  • Microwave safe container or glass jar
  • Silica gel
  • Microwave
  • Florist's wire
  • Glass of water
Drying flowers is a great way to preserve their beauty so they can be enjoyed during the winter. Start by cutting the stems down to about 1" long.

Partially fill a large glass or microwave safe container with silica gel. Place the flower stem down into the gel and slowly fill the remaining portion of the jar with gel.

Be sure to place silica gel around and between all petals of each flower.

Once the flowers are totally covered, place the container in the oven and put a cup of water in the rear corner of the microwave. Microwave at full power for 1 to 3 minutes.

After letting the silica gel cool for 5 to 10 minutes, slowly pour it out of the container and carefully remove the flowers. Brush off any extra grains of gel from the petals and stems. Insert floral wire into the remaining stem for support. The leaves should be dried separately and then added to the stems.
