What you need:
  • 6 mil black plastic
  • Shovel
  • Scissors
It's simple to create a suitable environment for a bog garden. Once you have determined where you want to create your bog, dig out the area to a depth of one to two feet. Lay six mil black plastic over the entire area. Leave enough excess plastic on all sides so that you create a makeshift tub.

Anchor the plastic down on one side with dirt. Use a pair of scissors, a knife or a pitchfork to poke holes in the plastic. The holes will allow some water to drain out of the garden, but keep enough of it in to create a bog.

Fill the entire area with soil.

Rake the soil to a fine tilth. If there is any excess plastic sticking out of the soil, trim it off. The bog is now ready for planting.
