What you need:
- 1 gallon or larger clematis
- 5 gallon or larger container
- Trellis
- Potting soil
- Twist ties
- Assorted annuals
- Gravel or rocks
Clematis are beautiful additions to any container garden. Take a large container and add about an inch or two of gravel to the bottom. This will aid in drainage. Fill the container about halfway with soil. |

Next, remove all the ties from the clematis. |

Water the clematis thoroughly and carefully remove it from its pot. |

Place the clematis in the center of the large container and backfill with soil. |

Spread the clematis' vines evenly around the container and place a trellis in the middle of the pot. |

Weave the vines through the trellis and attach them loosely with twist ties. |

To finish, plant assorted annuals around the perimeter of the container and water well. The annuals will serve a dual purpose in the container. Not only do they add a burst of color to the planting, they also shade the clematis roots, which will result in a much happpier, healthier plant. |
