What you need:
  • A tray or seed starting flat
  • Spray bottle
  • Plastic wrap
  • Seedling mix
Completely fill a tray with moist seedling mix and level it off. The tray should be 2" deep. It is not necessary for the tray to have drainage holes.

Sprinkle the seeds evenly over the entire area. If you use very fine seeds, it helps to mix the seeds with some sand. The seeds will be spread much more evenly this way.

Cover the seeds with soil. Use the recommended planting depth on the seed packet to determine how much soil to cover the seeds with.

Use a spray bottle to thoroughly moisten the soil. Use as fine a mist as possible so you do not dislodge the seeds.

Place the tray in a propagator or cover it with plastic wrap. In a few days, you should see seedlings emerging. Once the seeds have formed their first true leaves, you will need to transplant them into packs or small pots.
